I hate to say this. But republic parking will not listen to anything from anyone.I worked for them for awhile, and fell victim to their new system. If anyone thinks they care about customers they are wrong. If you have a problem you are better of going to the SPA office on Bridge st,than the Republic parking office on Chestnut St.

Good to see you at the CT DOT meeting tonight...I only hope they noted our comments that we want rail now. Buses and trains can work together, we we see in the Portland, Maine to Boston, Massachusetts "Downeaster" line.

You're talking in part about what was known during Connecticut Governor Rowland's administration as the Hartford-Springfield corridor. Improved rail transportation for people and freight would encourage business growth and provide badly needed jobs for the Hartford area and Western Massachusetts. Population will also increase, and convenient and efficient rail transportation would mean fewer automobiles and less pollution. Keep in mind that as technology improves travel time will decrease, another attractive feature of rail travel.

Hi Mike, it's Herb from the PVACR. Thank's for the mention and I'd like to remind people that we have a website at SpringfieldRail.org.

You touched on it, but I would like to re-emphasize that it's not about "rail vs. bus" or "rail vs. air" - it's about choice and variety of transportation. Rail is very good at moving people between city centers but no so good at getting people to final destinations which is where bus and taxis can fit in. But in the end, we need a choice of every mode: air, rail, automobile, bicycle, even sneakers and let people chose what works best for them on a particular trip.

Thanks again for the support.

I would not support devoting resources to GM - it's throwing good money after bad. I would support a bankruptcy (in which they continue operations), allowing them to restructure their operations on a more sustainable basis.

That said, there *are* some things the government can do:
- Health Care
(This is a big reason for GM's financial woes - they are competing with cars made in countries that provide health care to their workers - and even more significant, they have a huge number of retirees burdening an organization with a much smaller amount of present day workers.)
- changes to the tax law to make investing in R&D more advantages and to reduce the pressure to scrap (currently) unproductive assets.
- Investment in technologies, such as the volt, to reduce fuel use.

Check Automotive News website for today's article re GM's request to the FAA that their private jet be removed from public tracking. Interesting, they want our money but they don't want us to know how they're spending it. Off on the wrong foot on accountability, maybe.

Yes, we have to do something. One thing we could do is make sure auto makers are designing and selling safe, dependable transportation powered by alternatives to fossil fuels; not luxury and status. We could keep plenty of people working to improve public transportation and make it available and attractive, even if only in highly populated urban areas.
